Saturday, August 15, we collected 8-week old Swamp Dog Molly! She is an American Cocker Spaniel and a distant cousin of our dear Swamp Dog Katie, who is now 12 1/2 years old; no spring chicken, by any means.
Swamp Dog Molly, is certainly a handful, but is health, happy and quickly becoming a member of our family.
Katie, interestingly enough, has only today, started to show Molly who 'rules the roost;' heretofore allowing young Molly to antagonize her. Katie would just walk, or run in the opposite direction of Molly, as fast as she could. I have been shielding Katie as much as I can, but it is up to her to put Molly in her place.
Watching the interaction that is taking place is one of the most interesting things I've ever seen. Katie makes a bit of a noise and makes a nipping motion at Molly's face and pretty much stares the little truant down! Molly then goes to the floor, slithers on her tummy up to Katie or rolls on her back and puts her tummy up in complete submission. I do believe that Molly will be put in her proper place for good over the next couple of days, if today is any indication.
I am very proud of Katie for taking ownership of her roost and her people, without being a bully. I'm also pleased to have one more responsibility put to bed... making peace between the two of them.
Swamp Dog Molly will be receiving callers after she has her full battery of inoculations. Until then, you are more than welcome to visit her at the shop and look at her from the shop side of the pet gate! She is awfully cute, very small and cuddly and you will just love her!
